While improvising at the piano, I started experimenting with bassline-driven vamps, and one of them quickly stood out. It immediately made me think of the "Poinciana" groove from Ahmad Jamal’s iconic recording, but with a more modern feel. From there, the song choice serendipitously emerged, and I just knew it had to be the great jazz standard, “I’m Glad There Is You.” The reflective, hopeful vibe of the music felt like the perfect fit for one of my favorite lyrics: “I’ll live to love, I’ll love to live,” and the song’s beautiful message of meaningful, enduring love.
