JAMIE SHEW

Jazz Vocalist, Educator, Composer, & Arranger

"Jamie Shew has a strong, clear and attractive voice, sounding very comfortable in all registers. On A Place For Me, Jamie Shew shows that she can swing at every tempo, sounds at home interacting with jazz musicians, and is a subtle but creative improviser. Among the highlights are a cooking “Love Me Or Leave Me,” getting to hear the verse of “Get Out Of Town,” the singer’s joyful interpretation of “Put On A Happy Face” (she has no problem nailing the notes of the melody which covers a wide range), the arrangement of “What Is This Thing Called Love” and her warm version of “Skylark.” The upbeat title song and the jazz waltz “The Game” (co-written with Royce Campbell) are also well worth hearing.  A Place For Me is a fine CD, easily recommended to listeners who enjoy discovering new and talented jazz singers.

"She is an intelligent singer, approaching scat singing with a decidedly instrumental cast.  She has impeccable time and a fluid emerging style."
